It is so frustrating to be a Canadian. You are affected by USA politics nearly as much as as they are but have no say in the elections. It’s like being a Siamese twin to an angry self destructive alcoholic with a gun fetish.

Don’t worry Canada, the U.S. citizens don’t really have a say in U.S. politics either. It’s kind of like being the liver of an angry self-destructive alcoholic with a gun fetish and control issues.

sirius i never understood why you act so guilty like why couldn’t you say “nah im just here to kill the rat” instead of “only one will die tonight”

I think people just haven’t completely grasped the concept that Sirius Black is the biggest drama queen of all time

It really seems unreal that Arrested Development is coming back NEXT MONTH! Did you ever think you’ll be hearing that? I know I didn’t.

Spooky Folk – “Resurrect” (live)

Pairs Well With…Telegraph Canyon, Dawes, The Apache Relay

While I couldn’t find too much to share beyond Spooky Folk’s 2010 debut LP, the Denton band’s mix of minimal folk and driving indie rock has kept the band as a standout local act for the past couple of years.  As I hoped in 2011’s review, some recent words from the band indicate their sophomore record is shaping up to be a heavier effort, exactly the direction this band should be heading.  Surely the band will intersperse tracks written past the turn of the decade (see 2012’s Violinist Sessions for a preview) at 35D, just being able to join in on the “Bible Belt” sing-a-long is worth catching this dynamic outfit.

2011 Review: an indie rock/folk rock band from Denton, TX with a lo fi mentality.  Spooky Folk have a little shape-shifter in them, sometimes playing a down country folk band, others times resembling a polished young indie rock band.  Everything they do has a raw and gritty edge, but with a lo fi attitude to keep the music relatively quiet.  The pop influence rides throughout their songs, incorporating great choruses (Bible Belt is a real winner) and slow and gentle verses.  They excel with their more upbeat material, so I hope they continue in that direction rather than the minimal folk that encompasses some of their material.
